mom used to make chicken soup with dumplings on snow days.

i am impressed with myself this morning. before 11am, i made a pot of seitan from scratch for the first time (using vital wheat gluten) and got about halfway through making a walnut-pepita spread before my tri-weekly conference call. in order to rescue some of the stock used to simmer the seitan, i would like to make a stew as well, but i would likely need to leave the house to purchase some ingredients and i'm not sure that will happen since we are experiencing severe weather today. it's been rather warm in texas lately (up to 80 degrees), but i just heard a loud, rumbling thunder and checked the weather to find this:

...SNOW ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO MIDNIGHT CST
TONIGHT...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN FORT WORTH HAS ISSUED A SNOW ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO MIDNIGHT CST TONIGHT.

TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO FALL INTO THE MID AND LOWER 30S BY THIS EVENING AS THE SNOW BEGINS TO FALL.
TEMPERATURES WILL CONTINUE TO FALL THROUGH THE NIGHT AND ACCUMULATIONS OF ONE TO THREE INCHES ARE POSSIBLE WITH THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS OCCURRING CLOSER TO THE RED RIVER. THE SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN TO TAPER OFF AFTER MIDNIGHT AS THE UPPER LEVEL SYSTEM PULLS OUT OF NORTHEAST TEXAS.

what?

just when i had decided that dallas would not be receiving snowfall this winter.
