is there a parent out there who can explain this to me?

yesterday, i arrived a hair earlier than usual to pick up oliver. this meant i had to ring the bell and be let in. the school secretary opened the door and apologized for the overwhelming smell of fish. she said the older kids had been out in the hall making fish prints. and i said "ohhhh... okay... wait. what?"

she attempted to explain, but i had no idea what she was talking about. something about rubbing pieces of paper on fish? for learning parts of a sentence or vocabulary or fish or something? i imagined rubbings like you would make with a nice autumn leaf. but with a fish?

i found that to be disgusting for reasons beyond the smell.

edit: oh my lord. this is a commonly held practice, apparently.
